Ewans 2012 concerts

Red Hot Chili Peppers - 11th July 2012 - Knebworth

I was really looking forward to seeing this, a serious bunch of musicians (although no one could ever possibly replace John Frusciante) with a huge back catalogue and a reputation for the bizarre on stage.  And also it was happening at Knebworth, home of some legendary concerts.

Dizzee Rascal was the warm up, and it was fun.

That was the highlight of the evening.

It was obvious from the moment RHCP came on stage something wasn't right.  Anthony Keidis stood with his back to the crowd, sang without a spotlight on him, and left the stage in between songs, every song.  Flea was doing his best to keep the crowd going, but it was a struggle.  The sound didn't seem right, although it was windy and they can't be blamed for that.  But it was just poor, they played well, and the songs are what they are, but this was a let down.

I would say it was the biggest disappointment of a live show I have ever had.  They are a great band, their career shows that, but on this night they weren't worth the admission.  When they left the stage to build for the encore, lots of people, me included left.

I wouldn't pay to see them again.
